An intriguing article by Janet Selser in a recent issue of School Planning and Management, delves into the physical environment of schools, and the role good design plays in student success.  Selser is a principal at Selser Schaefer Architects in Tulsa, Okla.

Among the factors addressed are:

  • Indoor air quality
  • Acoustics
  • Visual comfort
  • Sustainable design
  • Flexibility

And Selser challenges the design community to meet the demand for better learning environments. “It’s time to transform our learning environments to engage and inspire our students,” Selser says.
