The tragic tornado of 2011 still resonates in Joplin, Missouri. And the new 809,000 sq. ft. 205-room Mercy Hospital Joplin incorporates many resiliency elements to help withstand another natural disaster. Critical parts of the facility have windows rated for 250 MPH winds. The central utility plant was built halfway below ground to limit exposure. The main buildings consist of a nine-story hospital patient tower and five-story clinic tower. The ground-up project was completed in an unprecedented 46 months.
