The Facility and the Project

Hoover Dam is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and is one of 4 main dams on the Colorado River. Opened in 1936, Hoover is the largest of these dams, and it created and impounds Lake Mead, which at 115 miles is one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. The dam straddles the Nevada – Arizona state line that runs down the middle of the river, and provides electric power to Arizona, Nevada, and California.

More than seven million people visit Hoover Dam each year, with almost a million of them going through the Visitor Center … that’s about 2,800 per day or 350 per hour on average.

This project involved renovation of the cab interiors in the elevators that move touring visitors from the main level of the Center to the interior portions of the dam and powerplant complex.
